Hilton Anaheim Review: Pros and Cons

1/7/2022

Earlier this week I stayed at the Hilton Anaheim. It was a nice two night refresh after the busy holiday season. I used my Hilton Honors points for the stay. The last time I stayed here was seven years ago, so it was time for another stay to see what has changed. Not a lot to be honest. Here are my four pros and cons of the Hilton Anaheim:
Picture

Pros:
  • Close proximity to Disneyland - 15 to 20 min walk OR you take the Area Resort Transit (ART) which picks up right outside in between Hilton and Marriott. You can buy tickets at the hotel or buy them on the ART website and have them delivered to the hotel for free. You also can pay on board with cash (exact change only) or use the free ART app as a mobile ticket.

  • Disneyland View rooms are legit - I was able to peek into one that housekeeping was cleaning. Turn in the music on your phone and you have your own private show! My previous trip we had a standard view, and with some Google Map sleuthing and being able to select my room on the app we were able to find a room that we could see fireworks from!

  • Starbucks is located in the lobby - There is a specific line for Gold & Diamond HHonor guests. There is no mobile order option if you have the Starbucks app.

  • Multiple dining options include: a food court the has three different options, a pool gar & grill (open seasonally), Mix Restaurant, and Mix Bar (serves selections from Mix).
Cons:
  • Walking 15-20 minutes back after being at the parks all day. Your feet are tired, hips are sore, and you’ve got a kiddo throwing a tantrum because they don’t want to walk; or they’ve fallen asleep on your shoulder. It gets old after the first night and makes staying on-site a bit more appealing.

  • Guest Rooms need a refresh. They looked exactly the same as they did the last time I stayed there. Boring and bland.

  • This is also a convention hotel. It felt very chaotic and rushed. There was not a convention when I was there, in fact the staff said it was pretty quiet, but I still felt this atmosphere….imagine during peak season with a convention…Take it as you will.

  • There was not a good variety of food. I had a hard time finding gluten free items, they weren’t clearly marked, but I was able to manage.

TIP: Wi-Fi is free for Hilton Honors members! It’s free to sign up for and you typically can get a HHonors discounted rate.

Overall, Hilton Anaheim is a good option if you are a HHonors Member and/or want to earn/redeem points. My room was clean, but felt like it needed a refresh. It was bland, boring, and needed some personality added! My pillows were also kind of lumpy. There is a decent size fitness center and a fun kids splash zone at the pool. Did I mention there are two Jacuzzis? The service at the restaurant and bar was great! The bartender remembered my name and my drink preference and was fun to chat with. Selections at the restaurant and bar needed improvement. As someone with a food sensitivity, food is a big one for me. So this is what sways me towards looking at other hotels.

Would I stay here again? Sure, if the price was decent or I had some points I needed to burn off. However, there are other hotels I would look at first.
